The transportation sector is one of the largest sources of U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2012, transportation represented approximately 28 percent of total U.S. GHG emissions. Between 1990 and 2012, GHG emissions in the transportation sector increased more in absolute terms than any other sector (i.e. electricity generation, industry, agriculture, residential, or commercial).” – Environmental Protection Agency
