Will Harris III made the conscious decision to return a family farm established 146 years ago to a production system that is better for the environment, for the animals, and for the people who eat their meats and produce. That farm is White Oak Pastures.
He re-instituted the multi-species rotational grazing practices of his forefathers, and he built abattoirs on the farm to slaughter his animals.
Harris was also a 2011 Georgia Restaurant Association GRACE Award winner—The Innovator Award! Presenting the award to Harris was Affairs to Remember Caterers’ Patrick Cuccaro, Managing Director and at the time the Chariman of the Georgia Restaurant Association, who said, “One of the highlights of my career has been standing on stage, before hundreds of industry colleagues, presenting this great man, Will Harris III—farmer, rancher, family man, and environmental pioneer—the coveted ‘Innovator of the Year’ GRACE Award. We are quite proud of his accomplishments and applaud this recognition.”
In 2010, the family tradition deepened as Will’s daughter, Jenni Harris, joined the White Oak Pastures team full time. She marks the fifth generation of Harrises to raise livestock in on this farm.
Today, White Oak Pastures employs 65 people and produces grass-fed beef and lamb and free-range pastured poultry.
