Atlanta’s Farmers Markets

It takes a lot to manage a farmers market! And we are grateful to those people who do. Many of the folks working in farmers markets are the farmers themselves. We encourage you to get to know your local farmers, and get to know the farmers market managers, too. They’re the ones who are going to be in-the-know!

Of course, subscribing to an available farmers market newsletter will help keep you abreast of market news, too.

We have found Atlanta Magazine to be an excellent source for a listing of Atlanta farmers markets , many of which are open year-round, and their respective pertinent information, including dates/seasons open, location, hours, and some even offer a list of what’s in season!

And it goes without saying, exploring some of Atlanta’s sizable markets is pretty good exercise, too!

If you’re not frequenting your local farmers market, consider this. When Freedom Farmers Market at The Carter Center opened last year as the area’s newest farmers market, they enjoyed 3,000 visitors on their very first day! So, that’s to say that your friends and neighbors are out enjoying Atlanta’s amazing farmers markets…why shouldn’t you?

Sustainable Shelter at MODA

The current exhibition at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is Sustainable Shelter: Dwelling in the Forces of Nature.

In this week’s episode of The Green Files our Special Agents discussed a Green wedding. Our newlyweds will have to live somewhere, right? Why not in a sustainable, Green home, whether that’s a single family dwelling or a Green mid-rise? Sustainable Shelter is a brilliant exhibition that educates and excites with regard to all things sustainability in living spaces.

Also, “the exhibition investigates the ways that human dwellings extract, use, and discard energy, water and other precious natural resources and reveals innovative new design solutions that can help restore the health and viability of Earth’s natural environment.”

Did you know that MODA is housed in the Greenest building in Atlanta, and that that building is regarded as the most sustainable building in the northern hemisphere? The building gained that designation after a refurbishment by Perkins+Will, the resident architecture and design firm.

Located across the street from the High Museum of Art, a visit to MODA is easy when you’re visiting Midtown Atlanta. You can see Sustainable Shelter now through early April 2015.
