Growing up here in the South, your grandmother's cooking is everything. I was lucky enough to have two grandmothers that could cook, but that being said, one of my favorite things in the world was my "Granny's" Strawberry Cake!!!
She was an amazing Southern cook and baker and I will say that she had many desserts that that were loved by the whole family, but none more than her Strawberry Cake. This was something that we would see often at holidays and on special occasions, but kind of became a mainstay as we all got older as we would request it at every chance.
I remember so many times running into that house over to where she kept the desserts to make sure that the cake that was in that glass cake stand was the only thing that I had thought about all day. When she would look over and see me salivating at this big pink concoction, she would smile, and I think the fact that she knew it was my absolute favorite made it special, and even though everyone loved it, it sort of became our thing.
To this day, even seeing a strawberry cake on a menu or at a diner makes my eyes light up, and every once in a while I will now make this at the holidays just so the family can all remember how much we loved this Strawberry Cake. I think it may just be time to give it another try!!!!
