Affairs to Remember Caterers, Atlanta’s first Zero Waste Zones caterer and one of the largest privately held off-premise luxury caterers in the United States, today announced that its General Manager Patrick Cuccaro, also a playwright, will have his musical slammergirls featured at this year’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.
With Affairs to Remember since 1990, Cuccaro’s career again comes full circle with the production of slammergirls at the world-renowned festival. Cuccaro has enjoyed successful “performances” in theatre, advertising, and catering, with the love of theatre being a constant companion and offering the occasional cameo throughout the years.
Cuccaro, an award-winning playwright and owner/director of the former Showcase Cabaret Theatre in Atlanta, wrote the dialogue and original lyrics to slammergirls, a musical comedy fashioned after the unintentionally hilarious 1950s and 60s prison drive-in flicks.
The musical enjoyed a world premier run at Upstairs at Gene and Gabe’s, an Italian restaurant formerly located at the Monroe Drive and Piedmont Road intersection in Midtown Atlanta.
This year marks the 37th season of Spoleto Festival USA. Offering performances by renowned artists as well as emerging performers in opera, theater, dance, and chamber, symphonic, choral and jazz music, the Festival is internationally recognized by many as America’s premier performing arts festival. The Piccolo Spoleto Festival is a complementing festival focusing on artists from the Southeast region.
Cuccaro said, “I’ve had a couple of remarkable and exciting careers. I’ve worked diligently to make a mark as both a playwright and caterer, and I feel humbled to be able to find balance and to contribute in two separate fields, both of which I’m absolutely passionate about.”
“It’s a great honor to be part of the internationally acclaimed Piccolo Spoleto Festival. My career as a playwright has afforded me a creative outlet that’s not always obvious in catering, however, I think most people would be surprised at the parallels,” continued Cuccaro. “Entertainment is entertainment, and what could be more entertaining than staging parties and writing musicals?”
The Spoleto Festival USA takes place in Charleston, South Carolina, and Piccolo Spoleto Festival runs concurrently. This year’s dates are Friday, May 24 through Sunday, June 9, 2013—slated to be the largest and busiest Spoleto to date.
