Jukebox Prom

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

Did you know that the jukebox dates all the way back to the late 1880s? I’m not suggesting an 1889 prom (although the visual is fun), but perhaps have a look at Postmodern Jukebox for inspiration. They have a performance coming up at the Fox Theatre next month!

If you’re not familiar with Postmodern Jukebox, they take contemporary (and relatively contemporary) music and reinterpret those songs into sounds from the 1920s through the 1970s! Doesn’t that sound fun? That’s six decades to choose from for a prom theme, and the original music is what many prom-goers are quite familiar with.

Imagine having your DJ play Postmodern Jukebox renditions of popular songs, then later flipping to the music today’s prom-goers have on their smart phones. I love the range of that experience!

The beauty of this kind of prom—a prom themed to music of a decade or a musical group—is that the food menu can be totally contemporary and whatever you like! There’s absolutely no need to go back to 20th Century foods, but their music is still pretty cool, I think. As is contemporary music!

Here’s a thought…how about a menu inspired by pop stars’ favorite foods—that are appropriate for prom, of course? For example, Iggy Azalea‘s favorite food is cupcakes! She’s also one of the artists covered by Postmodern Jukebox.

And I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if our entertainment or decor partners could find a working jukebox from which prom-goers themselves could select! How AWESOME would that be?!

Those are a few ideas…feel free to take them and roll with them!

For the Fun of It: If you’ve ever been Rickrolled (also covered by Postmodern Jukebox), you’ll appreciate this one

Now You See It, Now You Don’t!

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

The Fox Theatre has many, many stories. But when we began our new partnership a year ago this past July, we realized that they did not have a “food story”, even though there have been celebrations and other special events—that had a food component—at the Fox for many decades!

We presented a new Fox Food Story, one that we hope AFFAIRS at the FOX special event hosts and guest will add to for years to come.

One of the three key elements of the Fox Food Story is the ‘shows’ that are performed on the Fox Theatre stage. If a client so requests, we can tailor a menu to a show that’s on the Fox stage during the time of their event—perfect if your events includes tickets to that show!

I’m particularly excited to share with you a special menu that our culinary teams has created to accompany The Illusionists, on stage at the Fox Theatre Tuesday, September 27 through Sunday, October 2, 2016.

“Inspired by grand illusion, levitation,
mind-reading, and disappearance”

There are surprises—illusions even—around every bite of our The Illusionists menu, including our—what you might think is sushi—Cheeseburger “Sushi”, a client favorite! Another is our Inside-Out BLT—an attendant tops two fried green tomatoes filled with a basil leaf, goat cheese and smoky bacon with jalapeno tartar sauce!

There are some surprises in the dessert options, too! One is our Miniature Apple Pie Carrot Cupcake that’s topped off with maple cream cheese. Surprise! It has an apple pie bite inside! Another unexpected treat is found in our Cherry Pie Chocolate Cake…there’s an entire cherry pie baked inside of the chocolate cake that’s finished with a rich chocolate frosting!

We had great fun creating this entertaining menu for your AFFAIRS at the FOX event!

Oh, and we’re no stranger to seeing our food disappear! It’s not a trick and it’s not an illusion…we see it all the time. But it’s evidently a secret between our chefs and our clients’ guests. *wink, wink*

Back in the Egyptian Ballroom, we’ve pulled more than one proverbial rabbit out of our proverbial hats.

While you may have seen magicians make an entire car disappear, we can make an entire wedding ceremony setup in the majestic Egyptian Ballroom disappear, and almost instantly replace it with gorgeously appointed dining tables and buffet stations…all while guests are momentarily enjoying cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres in the Grand Salon & Terrace. It makes for a gasps-all-around “Big Reveal”!

We endeavor to make every special event at the Fox Theatre a magical experience. Please, let us know how we can, for you, make what may seem only an illusion become a reality. Enjoy the show!

Meanwhile, behind the scenes…

We’ve created a special menu for the run of Cabaret, on stage at the Fox Theatre Tuesday, November 1 through Sunday, November 6. Enjoy that one, too!

Tony Award-Winning Menus

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

When you’re planning your fundraisers, to take place in one of the magnificent ballrooms at the Fox Theatre, have you considered theming the event—particularly the menu—around what’s showing on the Fox Theatre stage at the time your event will be happening?

In addition to Fox-exclusive food, our chefs are designing menus based on Broadway in Atlanta and other shows, shows that have delighted theatre-goers for decades!

Imagine these “Wicked“ly delicious Pistachio Macarons (pictured above) at a company party in the Egyptian Ballroom just before seeing Wicked at the Fox Theatre. Or…they’d be great as part of a dessert buffet during intermission for a group of clients you’re entertaining in Landmarks Lounge, too!

Many of us have enjoyed that dinner at a fine dining restaurant that you would totally gift a Tony Award, right? Award-worthy menus include consideration of performance (read: service), theme (read: décor), costumes (read: presentation), and of course the overall experience. Those are only a few aspects we put into creating award-winning menus!

If you’re an event planner, we invite you to look at the show schedule at the Fox Theatre and then talk with us about tailoring your fundraising event (or any event) around a particular show, incorporating Fox-exclusive food items and other client-favorite dishes from our awesome offerings.

As this is being published, our culinary team is working on menus for the upcoming shows The Illusionists (September 27-October 2, 2016) and Cabaret (November 1-6, 2016)…and more!

Connect with AFFAIRS at the FOX and let’s start planning your Broadway-inspired, Tony Award-winning menu for your Fox Theatre event!

Saturday Morning Breakfast

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

I’m a child of the Saturday morning cartoons tradition. I had lots of favorites. Bugs BunnyRoad RunnerThe Pink Panther…and then there was Star Trek: The Animated Series!

Saturday morning breakfast ranged from Cap’n Crunch to mother’s homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, with lots of pepper–yes, even as a kid I liked “spicy” food. As much as I love Cap’n Crunch, I loved it more when mother made breakfast and I got to help. Those Saturday morning breakfasts bring back some great memories!

Now imagine watching some of those same cartoons with 4,000 of your closest (new) friends!

The Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival delightfully includes a Saturday Morning Cartoons screening!

Now imagine hosting your youngster’s birthday party (or other special occasion) in Landmarks Lounge, connected to the main lobby, just before “Saturday Morning Cartoons” come to life on stage (on a GIANT screen) in the auditorium! This year’s Saturday Morning Cartoons viewing is on  Saturday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m. Granted most birthday parties are celebrated later in the day, but if you’re looking for something unique that not every other kid on the block has done, this just might be the Breakfast Birthday Party & Saturday Morning Cartoons event you’ve been looking to host!

What a special way to celebrate a special day!

Chocolate!

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

Who wants a lifetime supply of chocolate?

Me, too!

Relive that 1971 fantasy in the upcoming Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival screening of the classic Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, on Saturday, August 20.

Now, imagine hosting a special event akin to the famous Chocolate Bar at Café Fleuri in Boston. They present a spectacular Chocolate Bar, featuring thousands of bites of chocolate deliciousness every Saturday for 10 months of the year, a tradition now in its 27th year!

You can replicate that special indulgence right here in Atlanta for your special guests. How about a chocolate buffet at Landmarks Lounge before seeing Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, or before any show for that matter?

Or if you’re hosting a large private event, you can offer a buffet or served dinner in the Egyptian Ballroom and return to the Grand Salon & Terrace during intermission for a decadent chocolate dessert buffet!

Our Simply Chocolate Squares are incredibly popular, as are a number of our other chocolate offerings. The possibilities are endless and will give you a lifetime supply of chocolate memories!

Dinner and a Movie…in the Fox Theatre!

★ ★ ☆ ★ ★

Atlanta offers many, many ways to entertain clients, but let’s talk about a unique entertainment opportunity that may not yet be on your radar.

First of all, you may very well be one of the hundreds of thousands—if not one of millions—who have enjoyed a movie at the Fox Theatre, a grand movie palace in 1929 and once again with its annual Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival.

Now, consider this…you can entertain clients in a private, elegant space, with a private bartender and more. You can treat them to hors d’oeuvres and/or small plates or a full buffet dinner in Landmarks Lounge, conveniently connected to the lobby of the Fox Theatre.

Sounds easy, doesn’t it. That’s because it is!

Another special treat, Affairs to Remember can create certain menus that map on to the film that your clients will be enjoying that very evening! This is an entertaining option that’s budget-friendly (read: approachable), yet wholly impressive, as well as elegant and festive.

Landmarks Lounge is available year-round, meaning it’s available for Broadway shows, concerts and other special events.

I’ve personally been treated to private suites before a show or game and was indeed impressed, each and every time. I think your clients will have a unique story to tell their friends about the time they shared with you in a luxurious, private hospitality suite appointed with red velvet banquettes and Moroccan tiled floors and walls, and dramatic draping.

They’ll experience what few have…they’ll experience Landmarks Lounge! This is one movie night they’ll not soon forget!
