I’ve long said that if you’re hosting a special event at the Fox Theatre, a guided tour is a “must-do”. Sure, you can read a few articles and perhaps find a document with theatre highlights, but there’s nothing quite like going on a tour, walking in the steps that celebrities and dignitaries have walked for nearly 90 years.
The tours as described by the Fox Theatre:
“Take a guided tour back to 1929 and the golden era of the movie palace at the Fox Theatre. Experience a magic carpet ride through ancient Egypt and the Middle East, all while learning about the largest movie palace in the Southeast. Be swept away into a world of Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones, a world of Atlanta citizens rising up and saving a landmark from the wrecking ball, all from under twinkling stars and fluffy clouds.”
Allow me, please, to share with you my personal Top 5 reasons to tour the Fox Theatre…
#5 – You get to visit more than 10 locations throughout the Theatre! You get to visit places that the general public never gets to see and some sites that most have never even heard of. One of my favorite tour aspects is learning about the architecture of the Fox…and I’m learning something new all the time!
#4 – You’ll learn about ghost sightings in the Fox! There’s more going on at the Fox than any living person could possibly know, but perhaps its ghost(s) know everything!
#3 – You get to learn about the architecture of one of Atlanta’s most iconic buildings! Be sure to ask about the signatures (photo) and show posters in the dressing rooms!
#2 – As a history buff, I was super excited to see a one-of-a-kind Fox Theatre timeline in the back stairwells. It chronicles Fox Theatre milestones and some of the celebrities who have performed at the Fox, including Madonna, Prince, Jimmy Buffet, Stevie Wonder and The Rolling Stones.
#1 – If you’ve ever wanted to be on stage at the Fox Theatre, this is your chance! Even as many times as I’ve been on the Fox stage—as a tour guest or photographing a special event—it feels special every time. I highly recommend this experience for everyone!
Keep in mind that the Fox Theatre is a working theatre, so visitors should know that some areas may not always be available, but the tour will be fabulous all the same!
Did you know that the Fox Theatre offers specialty tours, too? This year’s “Ghost Tours” are practically sold out, so know you have to book early. They also do “Movie Tours” during the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival, which includes a visit to the Projection Room!
Coming up soon are the Fox Theatre’s special “Holiday Tours“! These seasonal tours begin in late November and run through December, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at regularly scheduled times. This tour includes warm cider or hot cocoa and seeing the famous Mighty Mo up close!
Tours can be a wonderful extra “cool factor” for your special event, whether during a holiday party, fundraiser or wedding rehearsal dinner. Ask one of our Private Events team members about booking tours for your special event guests!
